Aquadoodle Draw ‘N Doodle and Bath Blizzard

Critiqued by A Cowboy's Wife | October 15, 2008.

I absolutely love it when I come across simple and yet super fun toys!  Sometimes toys today can be so advanced and technical that even us parents have a hard time figuring them out.

Well today I introduce you to the Aquadoodle Draw ‘N Doodle and Bath Blizzard from Spin Master.  I have to say, these are the two of the best toys we’ve played with in a while!  Lets start with the Aquadoodle drawing mat.  As you can see in the picture below, it’s a mat that you can draw on using a special pen that you fill with water.  You write all over and let dry to erase.  My 2 year old played forever with this thing.  But wait!  Not only did my toddler enjoy it, the rest of the family did too!  My man drew pictures of horses on it.  My oldest wrote that his mom is lame and that he wants to drive the truck tomorrow, and my middle son traced his hands and little man’s foot!  I’d say it was a huge hit with the whole family.  I love that it’s non-toxic and has no mess like pen marks on sofa or color marks on walls!  I do have one small suggestion though.  There needs to be a cap to put on the pen so that we don’t have a small wet spot on the floor.

Keep in mind that my little man just turned two and lines and scribbles are the thing!  He’s in complete concentration the entire time he drew that one scribble..LOL.

Okay, now onto the Bath Blizzard.  Super easy to set up and bubbles start coming right away!  You simply hang it on your faucet, pour a cap full of bubble solution with some water  turn it loose.  My little guy absolutely loves bubbles and I had a VERY hard time getting him out of the tub.  He had so much fun that I let him stay in there much longer than normal.  Yes, you can pour in the old fashioned bubbles but that isn’t near as fun as watching them come out of this little machine!  My only con with this product is that it’s a bit on the pricey side for a bath toy.  While it’s a great toy, I think that today’s frugal moms will be hesitant to buy it.

Both of these are toys are really that simple and really that fun.  I give them both a thumbs up for simple creativity and hours of enjoyment!  Definitely should be on your Christmas list!!!!

Thanks so much Team Mom for introducing me to these 2 fine toys.  We love them:)

My Mommy’s Tote

Critiqued by A Cowboy's Wife | October 14, 2008.

This is such a great idea!  My Mommy’s Tote is an interactive book loaded with stuff to do and play with that will keep your little one busy for a long time.  Some of my toddler’s favorites included the write on board that you can wipe off and the clock where he can turn the hands.  There were mazes, a cute little cell phone, laptop, and even a wallet with a removable credit card!  TOO MUCH FUN!

With over 30 activities and over double that in little things to play with, my little guy took it over and played with it for almost 45 minutes in one sitting!  That’s huge for a toddler!

The Storage

It’s all packed in hard book type bounding.  Everything stays inside the tote with no problem.  The colors are vivid making it eye appealing to the little one.  You might think that “mommy’s tote” would be directed towards girls but get that out of your head.  Once the tote is open, there are endless surprises that any boy or girl would love to play with.

I give it 2 thumbs up! My recommendation is to keep in the car for travel.  Will keep them busy for a long time!

Reading and Saving Trees with EcoBrain

Critiqued by A Cowboy's Wife | October 14, 2008.

If any of you know me, you know that I’m slowly becoming a more earth friendly gal. I found something that sparked my interest because it involves reading which is something that I love to do. What if you could read and save a few trees in the meantime? Well, you can! Yep, you heard it here. EcoBrain offers this very solution to the eco-conscientious person.

At EcoBrain, you get to read ebooks which means NO PAPER! These ebooks are focused on green living so if you are new to this like me, it’s a great way to learn new ways to become eco-friendly.

From the website:

Reading eBooks saves trees. We all know that when we buy a book, it comes from a tree. It is no secret that most trees come from ancient forests. Forests are a place of majesty. Forests are dynamic habitats where soil can regenerate, birds can sing, bears can thrive, and the air is purified. But global paper consumption has increased by a factor of 20 this century and more than tripled in the past 30 years (World Resources 1998-1999 and can be accessed at www.earthtrends.wri.org). Rather than continue with a host of facts and figures we’ll keep it simple: eBooks save trees. So thanks for choosing eBooks and helping to keep our forests safe. Tell a friend and spread the word. We can make a difference!

When I first came to the website, I dove right into the categories choosing cooking.  As a bread lover, my eyes immediately spotted The Bread Builders: Hearth Loaves and Masonry Ovens.  You are given a snippet of the ebook and you can also view a sample of the ebook via pdf.  Basically all that shows you is the cover, title page, and table of contents.  If the ebook has received reviews from others, you will be shown that on the product page.

They also have a section for the kiddos, called EcoBrain Kids. Now my boys can find interesting reads that are basically educating them on how to live greener life in various aspects.  I really enjoyed the kids section and my 12 year old found several ebooks that he would like to have like Bones, Brains, and DNA.

THUMBS UP FROM ME!

It was easy to browse the latest titles and I really like the idea of having my ebooks on my computer, then cd for safe keeping instead of hordes of books stacked up all over the place.  Downloading ebooks saves you money and saves the trees.  It’s well worth it to give it a shot.

If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the download file size is quite large so if you have dial-up, forget about it.  Also, to get to the bread book, I clicked on cooking-drinks & beverages.  Sorta weird considering bread is about neither of those.  This may be a small glitch and really is no big deal.

The rest of the website was great.  Lots of options and titles to choose from.  I’m delighted that there’s a website like this out there.  A website that is doing their part in trying to make this world a safer, more eco-friendly place for the future generations to live in.  Now it’s your turn to do your part.  Buy ebooks and save some trees people!  Lead by example meaning buy an ebook for your child and show them a new way to become earth friendly.

To get you started, I’m giving away a free ebook download of Radical Simplicity to one lucky winner.  You have until October 19th to enter.

Tea Party Time

Critiqued by A Cowboy's Wife | October 13, 2008.

Only this is for girls AND boys and involves clothing!  Yep, I had you fooled for a second huh!  Over at Forest & Zoe, you can find a very cute Tea Collection selection of clothing that’s stylish and cool.

I would call this a designer boutique for children.  They have all sorts of fun and funky brands for kids of all ages.  It’s totally worth checking out.
